Hoboken Celebrates St. Patricks Day—Again

Although most of Hoboken amply celebrated St. Patrick's Day on March 6, the real Irish celebrated their heritage again today—the actual St. Patrick's Day. 

Mayor Dawn Zimmer delivered a proclamation Wednesday morning in front of City Hall to honor the Cunning family (who started the parade in Hoboken) and Irish culture in town. After the proclamation, which she handed to this year's Grand Marshall Bernadette Cunning Pearson, City Hall Clerk and Honorary Irishman of the Year, James Farina rose the Irish flag. 

Zimmer praised this year's parade, which—overall—was tamer than last year's. 

County Freeholder Anthony Romano also attended the proclamation. Afterwards, everybody went over to the Shannon where plates of freshly baked Irish soda bread were ready for the annual St. Patrick's Day lunch, hosted by Farina.
