Persistent Rain Causes Floods In Hoboken

Environmental Services and Hoboken Police are out in the streets

The sun will come out, tomorrow.

Today, though, Hoboken is still fighting floods.

The city published a map of flood-prone areas on its Web site. Residents who live in those areas can park their cars for free. The city sent out a warning Monday, advising people how to handle the floods.

The city extended its offer for free parking to those residents in flood-prone areas until Tuesday morning, according to city spokesman Paul Drexel.

Environmental Services Director Jennifer Wenson Maier could not be reached for comment, because she was out in the streets working alongside Environmental Services employees as well as Hoboken police.

Among the areas at risk of flooding are parts of the Fourth Ward and near  Shoprite.

Hoboken Housing Authority Commissioner Jake Stuiver said that he had not heard of any complaints from Housing Authority residents.

According to the National Weather Service, rain and drizzle will continue to fall throughout the night.

On Tuesday though, the weather is supposed to be sunny with a high of 59º.
