HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken High School Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball team completed a historic season this fall, finishing with a perfect 21-0 record and capturing both the Ferris Invitational Tournament Championship and the Hudson County JV Championship.

Entering the 2025 season, the Redwings JV program set ambitious goals and faced a series of challenges along the way. With the largest roster in program history—13 players strong—the team possessed both impressive depth and the challenge of ensuring every athlete had opportunities to grow and compete.

“From the start, my goal as a coach was to instill a competitive mindset in every player,” said Head JV Coach Jacob Faura. “We wanted the girls to understand that effort, attitude, and intensity would earn them their reps—whether in practice, warm-ups, or game play.”

After the opening weeks of practice, Coach Fernandes and Coach Waggoner saw something special in this group. “They told me they believed this team could go undefeated,” Coach Faura recalled. “The potential was there, but it would take relentless work and a commitment to improvement—especially as we were moving into a tougher county division.”

The season opened with a thrilling three-set victory over McNair, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable campaign. The Redwings showed composure, resilience, and a relentless drive to win—qualities that became their hallmark all season long.

After a 10-0 start, the team embraced new challenges: winning the Ferris Invitational and competing for the inaugural Hudson County JV Playoffs. To prepare, Hoboken scheduled tough non-league matches against top programs such as Paramus, Lyndhurst, and Union City.

At the Ferris Invitational, the Redwings dominated pool play with an 8-0 record before defeating Kearny in the championship, 25-17 and 25-14, to claim the title.

The season culminated on Halloween Day in the Hudson County JV Championship Final against Union City—a team Hoboken had already defeated three times. “We knew it would come down to mental toughness and desire,” said Coach Fernandes. The Redwings rose to the occasion once again, defeating the Soaring Eagles in straight sets, 25-23 and 25-19, to secure the county crown and complete their perfect season.

“In my ten years of coaching, this group stands out not just for its record, but for its eagerness to learn, its relentless work ethic, and its unity,” said Coach Fernandes. “Every player played a role in making this season so special.”

Sophomore Charlotte Dobson led the offense with dynamic attacks from all angles, while India Magaletta showcased exceptional versatility, excelling on both sides of the court. Isabella Quintero anchored the defense with sharp reads and fearless hustle in the back row. In the middle, Keirra McDermott and Aurelia Thomas brought strength, power, and leadership to the net. Running the offense with poise and precision was freshman setter Patricia “PJ” Brown, whose stability and leadership extended well beyond her years.

“This was a true team effort,” Coach Faura concluded. “Their chemistry, passion, and love for the game made this season one we’ll never forget.”
