HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken residents have been invited to a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning for Hoboken's next waterfront park.

Right now, NY Waterway is using the former Union Dry Dock property on the central waterfront for ship repairs, but after three to five years they are to turn the property back over to the city.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. at the Maritime Park construction site, 901 Sinatra Drive.

"Due to ongoing construction, community members must travel to the groundbreaking ceremony by walking south along the eastern sidewalk of Sinatra Drive and enter through the southern entrance of the Maritime Park construction site," the city noted.

The ceremony will take place outdoors on the construction site, so guests must wear closed-toed, flat shoes, and are encouraged to dress warmly, a note from the city said. The event will take place rain or shine.

When complete, Maritime Park will serve as one of the final links in Hoboken’s continuous waterfront walkway.

The park will include a skatepark, passive and active lawn space, educational piers, native plantings, beaches, and more.
