HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — How close will Hurricane Erin come to Hoboken and Jersey City, and what's the forecast for this week?
The storm is expected to continue its northwestern track, but is expected to remain offshore. However, forecasters say there will be life-threatening impacts to the surf and rip currents as Erin nears North Jersey around midweek.

The National Hurricane Center said on Monday, "Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the East Coast of the U.S., Bermuda, and Atlantic Canada during the next several days."

Hurricanes And North Jersey
Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore directly back in 2012, causing an estimated 30 deaths. Not all storms have to be a direct hit to be damaging; the same number of people in New Jersey are estimated to have lost their lives during flooding from downgraded Tropical Depression Ida in 2021.
As recently as last month, five people lost their lives in storms in New Jersey due to downed trees and floods.
