Former Quarterback And Longtime Hoboken Dentist Dies

HOBOKEN, NJ — Thomas Glatt, a longtime Hoboken dentist whose practice was perched near the Hoboken train terminal, has died at 81, according to his obituary.

His obituary calls him "a true son of Hoboken."

Glatt played quarterback for Demarest High School in Hoboken, then for St. Mary's of the Plains College in Kansas, the obit says — but he didn't stay away long, because his true love from high school was still in the mile-square city.

"He quickly became the star quarterback of the [high school] football team and he met the love of his life Elizabeth 'Betty' Magner," says the obit. "His success on the field afforded him the opportunity to attend college and he set out to play for St. Mary’s of the Plains in Kansas. Though the starting quarterback and highly lauded on the field he did not remain past his first year as his heart belonged to Betty and she was in Hoboken."

He graduated from NYU Dental School in 1967, created "the first condominiums" in Hoboken, and won several dentistry awards.

Known for implant dentistry, he received postdoctoral training in implantology at Harvard University.

He practiced dentistry in Hoboken for four decades, the obit notes.

Glatt's daughter, Kimberly, was for a time a municipal judge in Hoboken, and a mayoral candidate. He's also survived by his wife Elizabeth and children Janine, Stephanie, and Thomas.
