Former Hoboken Councilman And School Principal Dies
A longtime Hoboken elementary school principal and former councilman has died.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Richard Del Boccio, who served Hoboken both as a longtime school principal and as a councilman, has passed away.

Del Boccio, who died at his Hudson Street home on Saturday, was 84.

Del Boccio had served for many years as the councilman for the 2nd Ward, the northeastern part of town along the waterfront. He was also the principal of the small Calabro Elemenary School near Church Square Park.
Del Boccio retired from both politics and education in 2007.

Del Boccio, known as a gentle presence around his school, also served as interim superintendent of schools and as an adjunct professor at St. Peter's College for a time, according to former Rep. Albio Sires.
"The Hoboken Public School District mourns the passing of Richard Del Boccio, a dedicated educator, leader, and public servant who devoted much of his life to the betterment of our schools and our city," said a statement from the public schools.
"Mr. Del Boccio served the Hoboken community with unwavering commitment, as a longtime school principal, superintendent, and city councilman. His passion for education and civic responsibility left a lasting impact on generations of students, teachers, and residents. Our thoughts are with his wife Victoria and two daughters during this difficult time."
Former school supervisor Dennis Sevano said Monday that Del Boccio was a "solid administrator who loved Hoboken."
Visitation is scheduled for this Wednesday, 2-8 p.m., at Failla Memorial Home, and the funeral mass will be held at St. Ann's Church this Thursday, starting at 10 a.m.
