JERSEY CITY, NJ —A man arrested in Jersey City on Wednesday has been charged in connection with more than 30 burglaries in the area — in which he'd steal the cash register from stores — according to a police spokesperson.

John Hyland, 54 of Staten Island, is charged with 22 burglaries in New York City, seven burglaries in Jersey City, and four burglaries in Bayonne, said police spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

"In each case, the suspect would smash the glass front door of the business and steal the cash register from inside," she said. "It appears he stole thousands of dollars from the 30-plus businesses within the last month."
