Man Injured 3 Seniors In Hit-And-Run Near Hudson County Waterfront: Prosecutors

A man has been charged with 8 counts of endangering an injured victim and other charges after a crash near the Hudson County waterfront.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Passaic man has been charged with eight counts of endangering an injured victim and a host of other charges after he struck a car near the Weehawken waterfront on July 5 and then hit three pedestrians, prosecutors say.

Luis Tubac-Socoy, 25, of Passaic, has been charged with five counts of assault by auto, three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collison resulting in serious bodily injury, a count of causing serious injury while driving unlicensed, and the aforementioned eight counts of endangering, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

He was arrested on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he has been detained since the collision, prosecutors said.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, the Weehawken Police Department was notified of a crash in the area of Avenue at Port Imperial and Port Imperial Boulevard, prosecutors said.

Police found a damaged Honda CRV near Port Imperial Boulevard and Henley Place, they said.

They determined that a Ford F360 had struck the Honda. Then, the driver of the Ford "fled the scene, striking three pedestrians a short distance away," prosecutors said.

Then the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prosecutors said.

Two of the pedestrians, a 78-year-old North Bergen woman and a 70-year-old Florida woman, as well as one passenger of the Honda, an 80-year-old North Bergen woman, were seriously injured, prosecutors said.

The third pedestrian and four other occupants of the Honda suffered minor injuries, prosecutors said.
