During this spooky season, most goings-on at our pottery studio are normal and fun. There are lively classes and birthday parties, team-building events and Fall themed workshops – the things you look for when you’re a part of a community studio. But since this is spooky season, I also feel compelled to tell you about the scariest story we’ve experienced during our time at the studio.
You deserve to know about the invisible student.
Late last Fall we had a man named Thayer reach out to us. He called the studio once, messaged us on social media, and we even exchanged several emails. After about a month of going back and forth, we set up a time for him to come take a look around the studio. He planned to sign up for our Winter session, but before registering effortlessly online on our user-friendly website, he wanted to see the space and make sure it would be a good fit. We planned to meet on a Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., and sure enough, when the day came Thayer walked into our studio at 7:00 p.m. on the dot. Everything seemed normal. He toured the studio, we answered a few of his questions, and within about 30 minutes he was on his way and assured us we’d be seeing him when classes started the next week. He was joining our Monday Beginners Class at 5:00 p.m.
Primetime.
The next day came and we didn’t hear anything from Thayer. People get busy and distracted. We get it. We didn’t think anything of it. But the days kept passing. Saturday turned to Sunday, and before we knew it, it was Monday morning, and still no registration from Thayer. Was it something we’d said or done? We worried that something might have happened to him, so we reached out to check on his well-being. No response. Nothing. Gone without a trace. That Monday class was always our busiest, with classes filling up completely each session. Until Thayer. Since last Winter, every session has been the same, with our Monday class almost full, except for one seat. Instructors swear that sometimes while they’re teaching, they see the empty wheel begin to spin. The spirit of Thayer’s inaction and flakiness haunts us to this day.
To ensure we never again have to handle another Thayer, we’re making things a bit easier this Fall. Our second Fall session starts next week, the week of October 23rd, and if you register now using promo code BSPFALLPATCH you’ll receive a 10% discount off the price of our 7-week course. This offer is valid through the entire first week and expires at midnight on October 29th, so head to the link here and snag your spot while space remains!
We can’t wait to see you at the studio!
