HOBOKEN, NJ — They've got pickled pineapple, more than a dozen types of olives, containers of hummus, and of course, all sorts of pickles.
You can eat a pickle on a stick, buy a pint, or even take home a gallon.
Pickle Joy opened on First Street in Hoboken last week, in a slim spot that held barber shops for decades.

Worker Daniel Lopez was behind the counter on a recent Monday, doling out the fresh ingredients to patrons.

Lopez said that right now, the shop doesn't make sandwiches, but he uses the ingredients to make them at home.
"I learned it from the Italian people," he said, smiling.

The brick-and-mortar shop is an extension of a business that Lopez's relative, Frank Gomez, started in Union City. Pickle Joy frequently appears at local farmer's markets and festivals to sell their goods.
"There are new people to meet, new customers," Lopez said Monday. "We're excited."
The shop was redolent with the smells of the food. "There's a whole mixture of things," he said. "You never know which one you're smelling."
Aside from hummus, vegetables, and fruits, they also sell relishes, artichokes, banana peppers and more.
Will they expand someday? Possibly, Lopez said, but for now, they're getting started.
Pickle Joy is located at 55 First St. in Hoboken, a walk of approximately five blocks from the train station.
