NJ Shopper Buys Knives, Stabs Woman For Taking Too Long On Line, Police Say

A woman in North Jersey bought a set of knives at Marshalls to stab a fellow shopper, police said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A woman upset with another shopper at Marshalls in Kearny stabbed her with a kitchen knife on Saturday, police said.

Amber I. Thompson, 25, of Newark, argued with the other shopper "over the movement speed of the checkout line" around 6:15 p.m., said Kearny police.

Thompson allegedly threatened to harm the woman outside, police said.

When the victim left, Thompson bought a set of kitchen knives at the store, then followed the woman into the parking lot, police said.

Thompson then took out one of the knives and stabbed the victim in front of her family, police said.

When police responded to the parking lot, they found a victim wearing "bloody clothing" and suffering from multiple puncture wounds to the torso, they said.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police found Thompson in the bathroom "with a kitchen knife laying atop the baby changing station,” the police statement said.

After interviewing witnesses, police arrested Thompson.

She was charged with second-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree endangering, and weapons offenses, police said. She was taken to the Hudson County Correctional facility, police said.
