The victim's head wound needed between 10 and 12 staples to close it, according to the police report on the matter.
The police is calling the incident an aggravated assault as well as a bias incident. Hoboken police is currently looking into another bias incident, which occurred last week, when the word "Jew" was written on the facade of a Bloomfield apartment building.
Councilman-at-Large Ravinder Bhalla, who serves as the chairman of the Public Safety subcommittee, sent out a release in response to the incident.
"While I certainly hope these incidents are isolated, I am certain of one thing: they are not by any means a reflection of Hoboken and its residents," Bhalla said.
The vehicle of the alleged perpetrator was registered on a Bayonne address, according to the police report.
