Police Chief Defecated In Office, Put Viagra In Office Coffee, NJ Cops Claim

Several police officers filed tort claims against a NJ police chief, saying he defecated on the office floor, according to legal paperwork.

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — A group of North Bergen police officers say their chief defecated in department offices, stuck a hypodermic needle into an officer's penis, and spiked coffee with viagra, according to legal paperwork obtained by Patch.

Attorney Patrick Toscano of Fairfield has requested, in a letter to Attorney General Matt Platkin dated March 26, that the state take over the police department in the Hudson County town, saying that the officers now fear for their safety.

Toscano sent various notices of tort claims in January and March to the town of North Bergen on behalf of Lt. Alex Guzman, Officer Michael F. Derin, Officer Michael A. Derin, Officer Rasheed Siyam, and Officer Christopher Bowen, according to the legal paperwork.

"Our clients now genuinely fear for their on-the-job safety," Toscano wrote his letter to Platkin on Wednesday, "so request is herein made that the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office immediately take over the day-to-day operations of the North Bergen Police Department."

The accusations in the claims filed on behalf on the various officers range from on-the-job harassment to "pranks" including Chief Robert Farley defecating in department offices and on the bathroom floor and leaving it there, and chasing one officer around a room and stabbing his penis with a needle, drawing blood.

The claims also accuse Farley of sending a pride flag and masturbation cream to another officer's home, which his family saw; exposing himself at work at random times, and dropping drugs believed to be Viagra and Adderall into coffee. A claim also says one officer's fish were believed to have been poisoned with the drugs.

The claims also accuse Farley of "placing dangerously hot peppers in officers' food" and heating them up in the office microwave, which drew first responders to help one sick officer.

In an email on Wednesday, a township spokesperson said in a statement, "The Township of North Bergen has full confidence in Chief Robert Farley's leadership of the North Bergen Police Department and we strongly deny these false and outrageous allegations made by disgruntled officers who are resorting to attacking the reputation of a dedicated public servant to further their own selfish goals."

The spokesperson added, "If these claims are advanced in a lawsuit the Township will vigorously defend North Bergen taxpayers against these blatant cash grabs and prove that the allegations are false and defamatory.

"In order to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest and because we are fully confident that these claims will be proven false, we have proactively referred them to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office for review."

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said they were aware of the allegations and directed questions to the Attorney General's Office. Patch will update this story when comment is received.

Farley was appointed chief in February 2024.
