Reports: Victim of Empire State Building Shooting Lived in Hoboken

The 41-year-old who was shot and killed on Friday morning during a fatal shooting near the Empire State Building on Manhattan has been identified as a Hoboken resident.

Steven Ercolino, the victim of Friday morning's fatal shooting in front of the Empire State building, lived in a Hoboken condo with his long time girlfriend, according to multiple news reports.

The New York Daily News reported on Saturday that Ercolino, 41, had lived in Hoboken for at least the past four years and was ready to get married to his girlfriend, Bronx native Ivette Rivera.

The New York Post reported that a grief-strucken Rivera wrote on Facebook that "my life will never be the same without my baby, my protector, my best friend, my everything."

Ercolino was shot and killed on Friday around 9 a.m., as he walked to work on the last stretch of his daily commute from Hoboken.

A man by the name of Jeffrey Johnson was identified as the gunman and was shot and killed by police moments later. Johnson had been fired from Hazan Imports—where both men worked—the year before.

On a Facebook page created in Ercolino's memory, hundreds of people have expressed their condolences and have been sharing memories of their time with Ercolino.

A woman who identified herself as a classmate of Ercolino's at Clarkstown South High School remembered watching Jets games together with the victim and analyzing the team together on Monday mornings.

"Steve always carried a smile and was so bright and charming," Debra Krison wrote on the Facebook page in Ercolino's honor

Hundreds of other comments emphasized Ercolino's good mood and "bright spirit."

A colleague of Ercolino's remembered sharing an elavator ride with him every morning.

"I was on the elevator almost everyday with this man and worked in the showroom next door," wrote Judi DiDomenico. "All of us in 10 West 33rd St. are grieving."
