Services This Week For Former Hoboken Fire Chief Richard Tremitiedi
Former Hoboken Fire Chief Richard Tremitiedi, who trained younger firefighters for years, has passed away. Services are this week.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Former Hoboken Fire Chief Richard Tremitiedi — who served in the department from 1960 through 1995 and stayed involved in the community for years after — passed away this week at 84.
Services will be held Monday and Tuesday.
Tremitiedi was an Army veteran, according to his obituary. He was a dedicated Fire Department member who was promoted to captain in 1965, five years after his hiring, becoming the youngest captain at the time.

Tremitiedi served as chief from 1990 to 1995. After his retirement, he stayed active around town, serving as an emergency management consultant and working alongside volunteers during Hurricane Sandy.
According to his obituary, he graduated from Essex County College in 1984 while serving as a fireman. He held leadership roles in several public safety organizations.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Mary Tremitiedi and previously predeceased by a former wife Irene Tremitiedi, and daughter Christine Tremitiedi. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His family posted on Facebook:
"We are deeply saddened to announce our Dad, Fire Chief Richard Tremitiedi went to be home with the Lord on Thursday evening 3/23. Viewing will be held on Monday 3/27 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. & 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Failla Memorial Home 533 Willow Ave., Hoboken, NJ.
Funeral services are on Tuesday 3/28 10 a.m. at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church 308 Jefferson St., Hoboken, followed by the burial at Holy Cross Cemetery 340 Ridge Road in North Arlington NJ. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed."
