Armed Man Shoots At Jersey City Police; 4 Sent To Hospital: City

A man shot at 2 Jersey City police cars Friday afternoon. Four officers and the alleged gunman were taken to the hospital, the city said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a man shot at two Jersey City police cars on Friday afternoon, five people were sent to at an area hospital, the city said.

City public safety spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione said that just before 1:30 p.m. on Friday, two marked police cars under fire while heading southbound on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue.

The armed male shooter fired "multiple rounds," striking two cars, she said.

A sergeant got out of one of the vehicles and was able to engage and apprehend the gunman, she said.

The shooter was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition, Wallace-Scalcione said.

No civilians were injured during the incident.

Four police officers were in the cars, and were not struck by bullets, but were taken to the local hospital for evaluation and treatment for trauma, she said.

"A thorough investigation will be conducted by the appropriate investigatory units," she said. "We encourage anyone with information pertinent to the investigation to reach out to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office."

As a result of the investigation, a portion of Kennedy Blvd. through Jersey City remained closed Friday afternoon. Read more here.
