Gas Leak In Hoboken Cleared, Officials Say

Hoboken officials advised residents to stay away from a gas leak.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Update: The leak was cleared and the area is no longer off limits to residents, said a city spokesperson on Friday.

Hoboken's Office of Emergency Management advised residents of one neighborhood to temporarily stay indoors due to a gas leak, and told others to avoid that area.

"Please avoid the area of 13th and Grand due to a gas leak on the 1300 block of Grand Street," they posted on social media at 11:02 a.m. "Residents of the area are asked to stay inside, unless told otherwise by first responders."

They said the Fire Department and PSEG were on site.

After noon, Hoboken public safety spokesperson Marci Rubin told Patch that a contractor had struck a gas line at 1300 Grand St.

"The leak was quickly contained," she said, "and PSE&G crews remain on the scene to repair the damaged line. People should continue to avoid the area."

A Nixle alert went out at 11:23 a.m., with no followups as of 12:20 p.m.

The area is in the northwest corner of the mile square city, several blocks from two parks and camps.
