On Wednesday nights during the summer, the city is hosting free outdoor movie nights on Pier A Park.

The movies—mostly recent, popular flicks—start around 9 p.m. after darkness falls. Bring a blanket, a picnic basket and enjoy a movie against the back drop of Manhattan's skyline.

But, that doesn't mean there isn't more outdoor music to be enjoyed, with smaller crowds.

The city hosts a free concert every Wednesday night in Church Square park through out the summer. 

3. Pilsener Haus' One Year Anniversary 

Last year it was one of: the uptown bier garten.

So, if you celebrate anything this summer, celebrate the Pilsener Haus' one-year anniversary on Thursday Aug. 9. starting at 6 p.m. 

4. Downtown happy hour 

The moment you step out of the PATH train in Hoboken after a long day of work, isn't a cold beer the first thing you want during the summer time?

Well, lucky for you, there are plenty of happy hour options downtown.

has a backyard, has a lot of outdoor seating and offers $1 domestic drafts every weekday. 

5. A waterfront food truck lunch 

What better time than the summer to enjoy the Mile Square's waterfront? Grab a snack, a drink or a full meal at one of the city's regular food trucks, take it to the end of the pier and just gaze out over the Hudson. Check out the runners who come by (or not) and see if the fishermen catch something int he river. 

6. The Lackawanna Music Festival 

Local magazine hMag is on Pier A Park on Aug. 18, hosting popular bands. The best thing? It's free of charge. 

7. Shop at the uptown or downtown farmers' market

downtown and every Thursday uptown, you can get fresh veggies, delicious baked goods and other fresh produce. The farmers markets run every week until October.
