Tree Crashes Through Hoboken Basketball Court During Storm: See Photos

Fall, leaves! A tree inside a Hoboken basketball court shattered glass and struck a fence during the storm. The city gave a repair timeline.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A tree inside a basketball court in Hoboken's Church Square Park came crashing down during Monday's storm, shattering a glass backboard.

"Only in Hoboken would they leave a tree inside a basketball court," observed a man walking his dog nearby on Monday afternoon. Police tape surrounded the court.

The storm began on Sunday afternoon. A coastal flood warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

"That happened overnight during the storm," said public safety spokeswoman Marci Rubin.

She said the damage will be cleared up Tuesday. "Until then, that section of the park will be closed to the public," she said.

The courts are used by several nearby schools.
