HOBOKEN, NJ — As much as 2 inches of rain could fall in Hoboken all day Thursday as a Halloween Eve storm arrives, forecasters say.

In Hoboken, officials say that low-lying areas tend to flood when more than 0.8 inches of rain falls in an hour.

The potential is often highest approaching high tide. On Thursday, a high tide of 4.2 feet is expected at 3:38 p.m.

The National Weather Service forecast for Hoboken is, "Rain. High near 62. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible." The storm is expected to end before Halloween afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Melissa was expected to veer away from the Northeast, after drenching Jamaica. "Remain in your safe shelter," said the National Hurricane Center on Monday afternoon. Anything can change. See the storm track here.
