Worried About ICE? Hoboken To Run 'Know Your Rights' Seminar About Immigration Rights

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has conducted recent raids in New Jersey, including in Hudson County. Find out your rights.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Can U.S. immigration officials detain you if you can't present proof of citizenship on the spot? What if you have a green card? Or if you're not a citizen but your child is?

Worries have grown in immigrant communities and among tourists, in light of recent cases in which a Canadian citizen, a British tourist, and a Columbia student with a green card were detained by U.S. immigration officials.

In Hudson County, 16 people were arrested at a North Bergen warehouse on Feb. 26 after Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officials performed an "unannounced inspection" of a warehouse in North Bergen, seeking workers who were in the country illegally. The raid was meant to "ensure individuals working in government-regulated facilities were lawfully present and permitted to work in the United States," the agency said in a release.
