Young BCB Bank Executive Who Worked In Hoboken, Jersey City Dies At 34

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Pratik Chandra Patel, former Vice President of Commercial Lending at BCB Bank, beloved son of Chandra and Mina Patel, brother to Puja Patel, and a friend to many, passed away on February 4th, 2024, at the age of 34. He has now reunited with his younger brother, Anand, in the heavenly skies.

Pratik was born on July 9th, 1989, in Secaucus, NJ, and spent most of his childhood in Jersey City before moving to Edison, NJ. He returned to Jersey City in 2014, where he enjoyed spending time with his dog, Butters.

Every summer during high school, Pratik worked at his father’s convenience stores in Jersey City and Hoboken, whether stocking beverages in the fridge or ensuring the stores were clean. This experience instilled in him a strong work ethic and discipline that contributed to his success in the relatively short life he lived.

He graduated cum laude from Rutgers Business School, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in business management and entrepreneurship in 2011. Later, in 2013, he received his Master's degree in Business Management and Marketing from Stevens Institute of Technology. While pursuing his education, he obtained his real estate license and spent time selling homes, building his network.

After completing his studies, Pratik took over managing his father’s businesses and helped increase revenue and . In Hoboken, he witnessed the impact a small business can have on a community. He built relationships with every customer, offering free coffee, ordering specialty alcohol, and donating snacks and beverages to local events. Customers appreciated Pratik’s generosity and kindness.

Pratik became a founder of a real estate venture, purchasing over 60 homes and selling them within five years. During this time, he established relationships with different banks and loan officers, marking a pivotal moment in his career.

He joined BCB Bank as a Business Development Officer, forming strong relationships with business owners in Hoboken, Jersey City, and Bayonne. Many new developments within these cities displayed signs with his name on them; you may still see some around. These relationships helped him transition to the role of Vice President of Commercial Lending.

Pratik took pride in his work, and his impact within BCB Bank led to his involvement on numerous boards. He served on the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Jersey City, was an Executive Board Member of Jersey City Write on Sports, Treasurer of Hoboken Business Alliance, and a member of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce.

Apart from his professional life, Pratik was an avid fan of the UFC and NBA, attending numerous matches and games. He had a passion for great food and engaging conversations. Pratik possessed a wealth of knowledge, seamlessly transitioning from discussing philosophy to cars, current events, and religion. He adored his family and consistently made time to spend with them, whether it was just hanging out or trying different restaurants together.

Pratik brought comfort and solace to everyone around him. Those who knew him felt protected and loved. He was a simple man with a heart of gold.

Pratik is survived by his father, Chandra, mother, Mina, and sister, Puja.

A memorial is planned for February 7th at Franklin Memorial in North Brunswick, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
