$5,000 Reward Offered To Locate Dog Lost After Holmdel Fire

HOLMDEL, NJ — The owners of Duke, the dog who went missing after a fire at his house in town, still have not found him and a reward is now being offered, a family member said.

Irena Nemcova has set up a GoFundMe site for the family of seven, displaced from their Holland Road home after a fire Feb. 3. Nemcova is the twin sister of the mother of the family.

Luckily, no one in the family was injured, but Duke, just one-year-old, bolted and he hasn't been found yet.

Nemcova said in an email that the family is offering a $5,000 reward for locating him - and still "is looking for him every day."

No family members were injured in the blaze that began at around 4:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at 214 Holland Road.

The Rubin family of seven - parents and five children - escaped the house after fire alarms sounded in the house, according to a Facebook post on the Holmdel First Aid Squad site.

Fire officials have said a small terrier dog is safe, and one cat ran from the house, another jumped from a window and was being treated by a veterinarian. There may be other cats unaccounted for, police have noted.

A GoFundMe site for the family has received 771 donations for the family now, raising over $67,000. The house is destroyed, but the family is staying nearby, Nemcova said, in part to search for the pet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to township fire officials.
