Dance Performance In Holmdel Will Celebrate Lunar New Year

The public is invited to a performance in Holmdel Saturday, Jan. 28, of cultural dances by the Jersey Shore Chinese School.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The Jersey Shore Chinese School will offer a free dance performance Saturday, Jan. 28, celebrating the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Rabbit.

The show will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Bell Works, 101 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel, in the Atrium.

The event showcases many performances, such as Chinese folk dance and the dragon dance, lion dance and more, according to school Principal Lisa Albero.

The celebration last year was the first at Bell Works and attracted a large audience, said Holmdel resident Chiung-yin C. Liu, had of the Holmdel Heritage Committee.

"Everyone enjoyed the gathering at this fabulous location," she said.

The school is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1979 with the objective of promoting an understanding of Chinese language, culture and arts.

It has been located at William R. Satz School of Holmdel since 1989.

The school offers various classes in Chinese language for students with different levels of proficiency. Mandarin is the main instructional language in all language classes, including those offered for non-Mandarin speaking children and adults.

In addition to the language classes, the school provides students with a variety of cultural programs such as Tai-Chi, Chinese painting and calligraphy, Chinese folk dance, Chinese Arts & Craft , Multi-Media Painting, Chinese Yo-Yo, Ping-pong, Fun Sports Club, Pami Kol Self Defense Martial Arts, and lion dance, the school says.
