Gunman Threat Near Sycamore Drive School Found Not Credible: Police

The Tuesday afternoon threat was found to have been made from a person staying inside a nearby hotel, Hazlet police said.

HAZLET, NJ - A report of a gunman near Sycamore Drive School that prompted a shelter-in-place Tuesday afternoon was found to be unsubstantiated, authorities said.

The report, which led to the 1 p.m. shelter-in-place action, detailed that there were people outside a nearby hotel who appeared to be in possession of guns, Hazlet police said in a statement.

Hazlet officers “immediately flooded the area” and found that the threat was unsubstantiated, police said.

“Officers, with the assistance of Monmouth County Telecommunications Operators, quickly traced the incoming call to a person staying inside the hotel,” police said. “Officers made contact with the subject and found that the person was in need of a crisis evaluation.”

The subject was later transported to a nearby hospital, police said.
