HOLMDEL, NJ — Township residents came through for victims of the earthquake in Turkey with many donations of needed tents and medical supplies.

Mayor DJ Luccarelli reported at the Township Committee meeting on Tuesday that the township-collected donations are providing 250 two-person tents, 30 four-person tents, 40 sleeping bags and "boxes and boxes" of over-the-counter medical supplies to assist victims of the earthquake.

Also, earlier in the drive, winter clothing supplies were requested and he said many winter coats and other warm clothing was collected and will be distributed, he said.

"Holmdel always shows up when their neighbors are in need, and in this case we were able to help neighbors on the other side of the globe," he said.

The earthquake Feb. 6 devastated parts of Turkey and Syria, and tens of thousands of people have lost their lives as a result of this natural disaster. Thousands more have lost their homes and are still living in temporary shelters.
