Police Contain Fire That Broke Out At Attached Garage In Holmdel

Holmdel police first on the scene of a garage fire Wednesday protected the house; firefighters then extinguished the flames at the garage.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Township police helped contain a fire at a Holmdel Road house after a "significant" fire was reported outside an attached garage, police said Thursday.

The incident is being investigated by the Holmdel Township Fire Marshall's Office, police said.

On Wednesday afternoon police got the call reporting a structure fire at the house.

Arriving officers found a "significant fire" outside the attached garage, police said.

The fire was fueled by a large amount of firewood and other items that were being stored next to the home, the report said.

Officers used fire extinguishers and a garden hose to keep it from spreading to the house until firefighters arrived.

The Holmdel Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. Holmdel was assisted by fire departments from Keyport, Hazlet and Union Beach, police said.

Holmdel Road was closed to traffic from Line Road to Van Brackle Road and has since been reopened, police said.
