Booker vs. Lonegan, Restaurant Night for the Lake

Your daily planner for Hopatcong-Sparta includes news on Wednesday's special U.S. Senate election, a Hopatcong Mayor-Council meeting and a session of the Sparta Planning Board.

Here's what you need to know for Wednesday.

  • It's Special Election Day in New Jersey. Throughout the Garden State, voters will cast ballots to decide whether Democrat Cory Booker or Republican Steve Lonegan will take over the seat left vacant after the June death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. The polls will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Find your polling place in Hopatcong or Sparta here. Be sure to visit Patch tonight after the polls close, when we hope to report results as soon as they become available.
  • The Hopatcong Women's Club meets Wednesday 10 a.m. at the Senior Center. 
  • The Lake Hopatcong Foundation hosts a restaurant night benefit to support its work to improve the lake. Here's how it works: have dinner at Gatwyns on Wednesday evening  between 5-10 p.m., and 15 percent of your tab will go to the foundation.   • Another session of the Boating Safety Class is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Hopatcong Senior Center, 32 Lakeside Blvd.
  • The Hopatcong Mayor - Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30p.m. at Borough Hall. The public is invited to attend and to participate.
  • Also at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Sparta Township Planning Board will hold its regular meeting. 
  • Keeping It Clean: In Hopatcong, sanitation crews will follow Garbage Pickup Schedule B. The Recycle Center will be open Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon. In Sparta, check with the online schedule.
