DWI Sparta Woman Hits Rock Wall, Ends Up Down Embankment: Police
Police said Margaret C. Laureys, 52, was under the influence of prescription drugs when she crashed her 2010 Toyota.

SPARTA, N.J.– A Sparta woman who struck a rock wall and went down an embankment last Tuesday morning was arrested for DWI and charged with being under the influence of prescription medication, authorities said.
Margaret C. Laureys, 52, told police she lost control of her 2010 Toyota after looking down to fix a stereo speaker, according to Sgt. Dennis Proctor.
Officer Erick Finley came to the opinion that Laureys was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and the latter failed field sobriety tests, Proctor said.

It was later learned that Laureys struck a parked car on East Shore Trail before hitting the rock wall, the sergeant said.
Laureys was charged with summonses for DWI, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane and careless driving, Proctor said.

Cpl. Rick Smith and Officer Dan Elig assisted with the investigation along with Cpl. Ronald Koumaras III of the Vernon Township Police Department.
