Family Promise of Sussex County Receives $15,000 Grant from Post Foundation
The funding will be used to provide support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis.

Newton, N.J. — Family Promise of Sussex County received a $15,000 grant from the John and Margaret Post Foundation to support the agency’s efforts to end homelessness in Sussex County and the surrounding area.
The John and Margaret Post Foundation supports charitable organizations that benefit the quality of life for families and society with a primary focus on organizations in northwest New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania. The Post Foundation has been a supporter of Family Promise of Sussex County for more than a decade.
The funding will be used to provide support to unsheltered and at-risk individuals and families to help them stabilize their housing. This can include rental assistance, hotel placements for unsheltered clients, intensive case management, supplying food, clothing, and personal hygiene products to households, offering free workshops in life skills to support self-sufficiency, and providing backpacks and school supplies to children experiencing a housing crisis.

Housing that is increasingly unaffordable, rising inflation, and high eviction and foreclosure rates have thrust many individuals and families into a housing crisis and forced some out of their homes. Homelessness increased 24% in New Jersey between 2023 and 2024, and 58% in Sussex County between 2022 and 2024. Additionally, the percentage of people who were living in tents, cars, or makeshift shelters almost doubled, from 6% in 2023 to 11% in 2024. Housing is an essential need that is critical to health and wellbeing, and a basic human right for everyone.
Flexible funding provided by the Post Foundation and other similar foundations is necessary to fill in the gaps left from other funding sources, like government grant funding. This funding also allows the agency to provide support to more individuals and families, and to ensure that services, like the agency’s free workshop program, have sufficient funding.
