FedEx Driver Dies After Truck Overturns In Sussex County

VERNON, NJ — A delivery driver who died in Vernon this past Saturday when his FedEx truck overturned has been identified, police say, though the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

Captain Keith Kimkowski, a spokesperson for the Vernon Township Police Department, told Patch on Monday that an investigation is still underway as to why Victor Tejada Gonzalez, 40, from Dover, flipped his truck this past Saturday.

In a news release on Sunday morning, the police department indicated the incident was called in on Saturday at about 1:20 p.m. as a single vehicle crash on County Road 565 at the S-turn near Lake Panorama. When police arrived, they found that Tejada Gonzalez was trapped in his truck after it rolled over, later discovering that he died on the scene, the department's news release stated.

Vernon Township, McAfee, Pochuck and Highland Lakes Fire Departments responded to the call, along with the Glenwood Pochuck Ambulance Squad and St. Clare’s paramedics, the police department reported, with the road shut down for minimally four hours during the initial investigation.

This is coincidentally the second fatality in Vernon this past year where a delivery truck driver died on the road, the first in early July when a UPS driver named Matt Auer, 49, from Hackettstown, was killed as she was out making deliveries and a tree uprooted on Sleepy Hollow Road, falling on her truck and trapping her.
