Head-On Fatal Accident Kills Sparta Woman: Police

SPARTA, NJ — A Sparta woman was killed in a head-on, two-car accident on Sunday, with the driver who crashed into her seriously injured, Sparta police said.

Attila Princz, 41 of Sparta, crossed from northbound Route 181 into the southbound lane, hitting Erin Moore’s car head-on by Signal Hill Trail, Lt. John Lamon — a spokesperson for the department — said in news release about the incident.

Sparta Fire Department extracted Moore — 41 and also from Sparta — from her car. Sparta First Aid Squad took her to Newton Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Lamon said.

Princz, who was seriously injured with head and back injuries, was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, Lamon said.

"His condition is unknown at this time," said Lamon, though he did say Princz "was rushed in for emergency surgery."

Sparta Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.

Lamon told Patch in a statement by email that the section of Route 181 by Signal Hill Trail was closed for close to eight hours on Sunday, with the New Jersey Department of Transportation setting up a detour that wound from Signal Hill Trail to Conestoga Trail to Sawmill Road and back to Route 181, Lamon said.

There was minimal traffic impact with the accident on Sunday night, he added.

First Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Mueller — a spokesperson for the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office — told Patch in an email that Sparta police contacted the prosecutor's office's duty detective following the accident.
