Hopatcong Woman Driving High Hit Pole, Had Heroin: Police
A Hopatcong woman faces charges after police said she was driving under the influence of heroin when she hit a pole in Sparta.

SPARTA, NJ — A Hopatcong woman whose car went off Stanhope Road and hit a telephone pole on Sunday had 11 wax folds of heroin and was driving under the drug's influence, according to a Sparta Police report.
Alyssa Gessner, 25, of Hopatcong, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a motor vehicle, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Reckless Driving, police reported. Gessner also faces criminal complaints of Possession of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, according to the report.
A Sparta Police Department report said a report came at 9:15 p.m. Sunday in of a car crashed into a pole. Police reported when officers arrived, Gessner was not apparently injured and said she must have slid off the road because of ice.

The report said Sparta Police Officer Arlene Lippencott suspected Gessner had been driving under the influence. Because of weather conditions, Lippencott decided to do field sobriety tests at Police headquarters, the report said.
Police said tests and a further investigation turned up the evidence that led to charges against Gessner, whom police said had in her possession 11 wax folds of heroin when she crashed, as well as drug paraphernalia. Police reported Gessner was has a mandatory court appearance scheduled. She was released to a sober adult, the report said.
