Housing Navigators Help People Find Homes
Family Promise of Sussex County has housing navigators to take the confusion and stress out of finding a home.

The idea of a "Housing Navigator" is a relatively new concept to non-profit agencies that serve individuals or families who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Many such agencies have just started incorporating this service within the past few years. Previously, in addition to providing case management services, employees were often also assisting clients in their housing search.
Housing Navigators were hired specifically to fill this need and focus on the housing search, including establishing and developing relationships with landlords, realtors, and property managers, and educating them about the benefits of working with an agency to help fill vacant properties.

As the rental market continues to be extremely challenging with numerous applicants competing for each available unit, clients also have the assurance of having someone not only helping them with the housing search but advocating for them and guiding them through the rental process, which can be daunting and unfamiliar.
Beginning in 2021, Family Promise of Sussex County started the Housing Navigator Program in conjunction with the NJ Department of Community Affairs. What started off as a year-long pilot program has now entered its third successful year within the agency. The Housing Navigators at Family Promise of Sussex County have assisted hundreds of clients in the seven northernmost counties in New Jersey, namely Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Hudson, Warren, Sussex and Morris.
