Korean War Vet From Sussex Wins Jersey Cash 5 Jackpot

Carlos Rivera of Stanhope won the $628,820 jackpot in the Jersey Cash 5, according to NJ lottery officials.

SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J.– Korean War veteran Carlos Rivera of Stanhope won the $628,820 jackpot in the Jersey Cash 5 –much to his surprise.

Rivera self-scanned the ticket at the Cranberry Market & Deli in Andover and received a message that said "file claim," according to Carole Hedinger, New Jersey Lottery executive director.

Thinking he won only a small prize, he presented the ticket to the store clerk and owner, who revealed that Rivera "won the big one," Hedinger said.

“Congratulations on the win, Mr. Rivera, and a heartfelt thank you for your service to our country,” Hedinger said.
