Lake Hopatcong Train Station Awarded Another $10K In Restoration Grants

Over $200,000 will go toward revamping of the Lake Hopatcong Train Station in Landing.

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation will be adding $10,000 more to its already sizeable train station rehabilitation purse of $215,571. The National Trust for Historic Preservation awarded the new grant recently to grants the Foundation received from the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust.

Among other updates, the foundation will use the funds to replace the roof, complete with the original Ludowici Brookville green tiles that adorned the station when it was constructed for the Lackawanna Railroad in 1911, and transform the interior space.

“Over a hundred years after it was constructed, the Lake Hopatcong Train Station has been given a new mission and a new life, one which will both honor its proud past and allow it to thrive in the years ahead,” said Lake Hopatcong Foundation Board Chairman Marty Kane. “Once the rehabilitation is complete, the building will be focal point of the community to serve as a cultural and environmental center and as the foundation’s home.”
