Man Loses Control Of Dump Truck In Sparta, Rolls Over

Dump truck rolls over in Sparta, spilling sand and closing street.

At about 11 AM, 25-year-old truck driver, Max Vanegas, from Newark was going along his way on Demarest Road in Sparta when he thought he heard a loud noise coming from the front of his dump truck, according to the Sparta Police. That's when he lost control of the vehicle, a 1993 Western Tri-Axel dump truck, according to his statements to police.

The driver told police that it sounded as if something had broken. As he lost control, he veered right, hitting a telephone pole and going into a ditch, according to police reports. The truck, carrying a load of sand, flipped on its side and blocked both lanes of the two-lane road. The sand spilled out onto the road and the wires from the shattered telephone pole rained down, causing a short power outage in the area. The truck also spilled fuel, a dangerous situation that was contained by authorities.

The Sparta Ambulance Squad checked Vanegas. He suffered minor lacerations and signed off refusing treatment. Sussex County HazMat was on scene and a private contractor was en route to clean the fuel spill.
