New Elementary School Art Teacher Makes an Impression with Music
Art teacher Britt Huss masters multitasking by introducing the visual and musical arts to her students.

New proof exists that there can be connections between academic disciplines is on display at Hopatcong's elementary schools—and it's thanks to the efforts of a new member of the school district who is making a positive impression on the students she teaches.
Britt Huss, a newly hired teacher who splits her duties between Tulsa Trail and Hudson Maxim schools, was hired to teach art. Visitors to her classroom, however, would be hard-pressed to decide whether art or music is taught in her room.
Why choose? would seem to be Huss's philosophy—the instruction of music and art are vital for children, and if both can be presented as a unit, students are taught more efficiently and the experience becomes doubly meaningul.
So, as her students work intensely on art projects in her class using their eyes and hands, Huss is busy engaging the children also through their ears. On a recent class day, as students were learning about different types of lines in order to reproduce beautiful fall leaves. After the lesson on line formation, tracing and reinforcing cutting skills, Huss pulled out a guitar to make music for the kids.
Students said they enjoyed listening to Huss play and the lessons they were learning. According to Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina, Britt Huss is a very welcome and important part of the team giving children positive lessons that are a daily part of the learning experience at Hopatcong Borough Schools.
