Plane Crashes Into Trees Between North Jersey Apartment Complexes

The pilot was the only person on board the single-engine plane, officials said.

SUSSEX, NJ — A small plane crashed in Sussex Tuesday evening, leaving the pilot with minor injuries, according to aviation officials.

The pilot was the only person on board when the single-engine Champion Citabria crashed in the area of East Main Street in Sussex Borough at around 7 p.m. local time, per the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fire officials reported that the plane crashed near the apartment complexes Alpine Village and Wilson Manor.

The FAA will investigate the incident. No additional information was immediately available, including what led to the crash.

New Jersey State Police confirmed that the pilot was taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

The Sussex Fire Department arrived at the scene and secured the area for the investigation, which is now being conducted by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
