Here's what you need to know for the week ahead.

  • Hopatcong Borough Hall, Sparta Township Hall and their offices will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Busy week in and near Sparta's Town Hall: The Sparta Town Council holds its regular meeting Tuesday night at the township's municipal building. The agenda for the gathering has not yet been released. The public, however, is invited to come and offer input into the workings of their local government. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at 65 Main St. On Wednesday, the Sparta Library Board is scheduled to gather at 4:30 p.m. at the library, 22 Woodport Road.  The Zoning Board meets Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building. And on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Environmental Commission holds its regular meeting.
  • In Hopatcong, the Recreation Committee gathers Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Borough Hall, 112 River Styx Road.
  • On Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m.,  Hopatcong Youth Wrestling holds an Open House and Registration at the Hopatcong High School Auxiliary Gym.  Children from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade are welcome.
  • On Thursday, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation hosts a restaurant night fundraiser at Frank's Pizza of Mount Arlington to support its mission to improve Lake Hopatcong for all who use it. Enjoy dinner at Franks on Thursday from 5-10 p.m. and 15 percent of your food bill will become a generous donation for the LHF. Parties of five or more are asked to make a reservation in advance at 973-398-7300. Franks Pizza is conveniently located at 181 Howard Blvd. in Mt. Arlington. You must be 21 or over to attend. To buy a ticket, contact Vicki Burke from the Oak Ridge side at 973-409-4279 or Radhika Jayakumar from the Lake Hopatcong side at 973-794-4019. For more information, call 973-663-2500 or send email to  info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.
  • Here is the final opportunity in 2013 for recreational boaters to obtain the NJ Boating Safety Certificate: The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 06-07 offers its periodic boating safety course “About Boating Safely” at the Hopatcong Civic Center this Saturday. The class runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 32 Lakeside Blvd. in nearby Hopatcong. Contact FSO-PE Frank Federico at f.federico@att.net. Price is $65 and includes lunch.
  • Ronnie's Dance School in Hopatcong offers a one-night only night of Cha Cha Lessons and Dance Party. Really it's a dance with practice before it starts: The class begins Saturday evening at 7 p.m. sharp, and it's followed by open dancing until 11 p.m.  Tickets are $15 per person for the whole night.   The class is beginner level but the instructor will throw something a little more advanced in for those who want it.  As the evening progresses, Ronnie's team demonstrates other basic steps in other dances to keep everyone moving. Sounds like a cool idea: Join in by making a reservation at 973-398-0098. Refreshments will be served, and BYOB is allowed. Ronnie's Dance Studio is at 393 Maxim Drive in  Hopatcong.
