Sparta Preschool Seeks Donated Hats for Kids with Cancer

Kiddie Academy is asking residents to drop off a hat for its Hats Off for Cancer collection drive through Jan. 6.

The Kiddie Academy of Sparta has enlisted in the fight against cancer. The preschool and daycare center is sponsoring a local collection campaign for the national nonprofit Hats Off for Cancer.

Often, cancer patients lose their hair during chemotherapy treatments. People deal with the hair loss in numerous ways: embracing the bald look, turning to wigs, wrapping their pates in scarves and wearing hats. Hats are particularly popular with kids who have cancer, because, well, hats can be fun.

Kiddie Academy's drive, which runs through Jan. 6, 2014, is aimed at collecting hats for kids battling cancer in hopes of making their experience easier to endure. According to the Hats Off website, the chapeaus are contributed by celebrities, professional athletes and teams, businesses and John and Jane Q. Public.
