Sparta Ranked 34th Safest Town In America

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Congratulations, Sparta Township: You’re one of the safest towns in the country.

According to safewise.com’s annual rankings, Sparta Township came in 34th overall in the category of towns with populations over 10,000 residents. Washington Township (Morris County) was the only New Jersey town to crack the top-20, and was joined by Chatham Township at number 22. Dozens more Garden State towns speckled the top 100. SafeWise is an independent company that specializes in home security reviews, comparisons, and advice for consumers to make the best decisions on how to protect their home.

The site’s methodology and ranking system came from Uniform Crime Report data for the full year of 2014.

“This gorgeous lakeside town became a township in 1845 and was named after the famous Greek city-state,” the safewise.com review said of Sparta Township. “With a powerful name comes a strong urge to protect the town of Sparta and its surrounding areas. Recently, the city partnered with the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife to reinvent a plan to conserve the 3,461-acre Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area. It will focus on conserving what's there, preserving biodiversity, and eradicating invasive species. The plan is reminiscent of how Sparta views public safety: keep what's beneficial and remove what's harmful!”

This is a big move for Sparta Township, which was previously unranked by the website.
