VIDEO: NJ Police Rescue Man In Woods Suffering From Hypothermia

A man who left his UTV and went missing for 24 hours was found by troopers deep in the North Jersey woods, police said.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ - A man who was reported missing in North Jersey was rescued deep in the woods by state troopers, who provided short-term emergency aid to the man suffering from hypothermia, police said (video below):

Several days before Christmas, the man reportedly left his residence in a UTV and was not heard from within 24 hours, state police said in a statement. Per body camera footage dated Dec. 17, state troopers were able to follow the man’s footprints in the snow deep into the woods in Sussex County, where it became apartment that the man had become separated from his walking stick and his right boot.

The man was found unresponsive, “a short distance from his boot, lying face up with labored breathing, and was suffering from hypothermia,” state police said.

State troopers removed their blouses and placed them on top of the man, using ballistics vests under him to keep him from the frozen ground.

Troopers also took turns laying on top of the man in an attempt to transfer body heat, police said.

The man is currently at home recovering, police added.
