Wayne Man, 24, Caught With Weed, Paraphernalia in Sparta: Police

When the driver, Christian Carter, rolled down his window to speak to the officer, large amounts of smoke billowed out, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.– A 24-year-old Wayne man on Wednesday night was arrested and charged with multiple drug offenses in Sparta, authorities said.

Cpl. Scott Elig was responding to a call on Maple Parkway when he passed a parked 2009 Ford, Sgt. Dennis Proctor said.

The driver and passenger ducked as the officer started to pass, Proctor said.

Elig stopped to see if the duo needed any help and when the driver, Christian Carter, rolled down his window, large amounts of smoke billowed out, according to the sergeant.

Elig detected the odor of burnt marijuana and a subsequent search yielded two plastic baggies with marijuana, a metal grinder, multiple hollowed out cigars and a pipe, Proctor said.

Carter was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, Proctor said.
