Church Road Closure In Howell Begins Now Through Summer

Detours will be posted, as $2.9M project begins; replaces structure in Howell over the North Branch of the Metedeconk River into Jackson.

HOWELL, NJ — Motorists should expect detours to be in place for several months as part of a Monmouth County project on the Howell-Jackson border, county officials say.

The Church Road-Bethel Church Road project will replace an existing structure carrying Church Road over the North Branch of the Metedeconk River, Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said. Arnone is liaison to the county Department of Public Works and Engineering.

The Church Road-Bethel Church Road closure is on the border between Howell and Jackson, between Friendship Road and Valley Road. The closure began Tuesday, Jan. 24, Arnone said.

The roadway is expected to reopen in the summer of this year.

The new bridge will replace a structurally deficient bridge, along with other roadway improvements, he said a news statement.

Other improvements include widening and raising the pavement, with full-depth pavement reconstruction and mill and overlay at each end to meet the existing pavement. The existing guide rail and end treatments will be replaced according to current design standards, he said.

The project site is approximately 887 feet long and 34 feet wide.

The project is funded by the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund, with the contract awarded to Roman E&G Corp. of Newark for $2,933,019, Arnone said.
