Man Fatally Stabbed Mother While She Slept In Howell: Prosecutor

The mother, who was stabbed while she was sleeping, was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive, authorities said.

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell Township man fatally stabbed his mother while she was sleeping early Monday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Robert Parody, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder and a weapons offense in the death Loretta Parody, 61, Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Howell police notified the Major Crimes Unit of the prosecutor's office shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday of a stabbing at a home on Porter Road, authorities said.

Loretta Parody was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive, authorities said.

Police officers who responded arrested Robert Parody immediately; the investigation found he had gone into his mother’s bedroom and stabbed her in the chest while she slept, the prosecutor's office said.

He is being held at the Monmouth County jail pending a detention hearing.
