Howell Emergency Preparations Underway Ahead Of Storm
Howell agencies taking steps to cope with impending rainfall, potential power outages. School district cancels after-school activities.

HOWELL, NJ — With rain forecast to start between noon and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Howell has already taken steps to deal with potential flooding and power outages, officials say.
The rain will be light at first, but between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday it will intensify, before returning to light rain, police said.
Howell is anticipating a total of of two to three inches of rainfall, with 50 to 55 mph winds, gusts to 60 mph.

Meanwhile, the local school district has cancelled extracurricular after-school and all evening activities in the buildings, according to Ronald Sanasac, assistant superintendent.
Because the ground is saturated, the township is anticipating flooding in poor drainage areas and ponding on roadways, as well as downed trees and power outages.

The Howell Township Department of Public Works will be proactively cleaning storm drains and outlet structures, officials said.
The town is stationing light carts along Route 9 to back up the traffic lights that have transfer switches installed.
The town is also checking flood-prone areas to make sure inlets are free of debris, officials said.
