Howell Farmers Market Hosts Pie Baking Contest On Sunday
Home bakers can bring in their best efforts for judging at the Howell Farmers Market second annual pie bakeoff.
HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Farmers Market's second annual Pie Baking Contest is on Sunday, Nov. 12, and home bakers are encouraged to sign up.
Categories are: Apple pie, pumpkin pie, mince pie, banana/coconut/chocolate cream pie, pecan, and miscellaneous pies. There are cash prizes this year, as well as ribbons, organizers say.
The market is at Alfred C. Sauer Park at Echo Lake Pavilion, 1205 Maxim Southard Road, from noon to 2 p.m.

Here are some rules for the contest:
- One entry per resident. There is no entry fee.
- Amateur bakers only. All entries must be homemade, not purchased at a store.
- All allergens must be identified to the judges in writing accompanying the pies. The name of the baker, email, and phone contact must also be provided.
- All pies must be delivered to the market at the Pavilion by noon for judging at 1 p.m. Bring the application.
- Judging will take place with judge's decisions for each category being final. The judging will be done with the judges not knowing the identity of the baker.
- The number of entries per category is limited to 10, and is subject to the Market Association's discretion on participation. The categories will close when the number of entrants who applied and arrived with their pies is received.
