Howell Fire Commissioner, Ex-Chief Dies: Fire Officials

Adelphia Fire Company life member Doug Howlett served the department for nearly 50 years, officials said.

HOWELL, NJ - A decades-long member of the Adelphia Fire Company and current member of the Howell Fire Bureau's board of commissioners has died, local officials said Saturday.

Douglas S. Howlett provided 48 years of service to the Adelphia Fire Company, fire officials said, noting that he served as fire chief in 1982.

Howlett, 80, was also a U.S. Navy veteran, PSEG employee and current board member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for Fire District No. 2 in Howell.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home at 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) in Freehold Township on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with a firefighter service at 7 p.m.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township.
